You can connect the Homey Energy Dongle to a PC or Mac via USB to reinstall the latest official firmware and reset the device to its factory defaults.
Before you begin, unplug the Homey Energy Dongle from your smart meter and, if necessary, the power adapter. Then, move it to your PC or Mac.
1. Visiting the Homey USB Tool
Open the Homey USB Tool in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or any other Chromium-based browser. After that, click the tile for the Homey Energy Dongle to get started.
2. Connecting your Homey Energy Dongle
Use a long pin to press and hold the pinhole next to the USB-C port. While holding it, connect the USB-C cable to your PC or Mac and click “Next” in the browser. The LED will remain off.
3. Reinstalling the firmware
In the pop-up, choose the option named “USB JTAG/serial debug unit.” Then click “Connect.” This will install the latest firmware and reset your device to factory defaults.
You’ll see the progress on screen, and once it’s done, you’ll get a message letting you know it’s safe to disconnect the Homey Energy Dongle.
