Presence allows Homey to automatically control your devices the way you like. For instance, Homey can adjust the lighting and play your favorite music when you arrive home.
Additionally, Presence ensures you don’t have to worry about adjusting the thermostat or switching off lights when you leave, as Homey handles these tasks.
Presence
Homey lets you manage your Presence status in two ways.
1. Automatically
You can set it up through Flows in the Homey app or the Homey Web App.
2. Manually
You can adjust your status yourself in the Homey app or use voice assistants.
Automatic Presence
To automatically update your Presence, enable Home/Away Detection in Your Avatar → My Account. Enabling this setting prompts you to grant location permission.
When Home/Away Detection is enabled, your phone checks your location when it detects a possible change. This can take up to two minutes, so there may be a delay in updating your status after you arrive or leave a location.
The Presence status is set to “At home” when your smartphone with the Homey app is within a small radius of the location specified in Homey’s settings. Naturally, it’s set to “Away” when it is outside that radius.
Presence Flows
You can also set your Presence status using Flows. This method lets you update your status instantly, rather than waiting for your phone to detect a change. For instance, you could create a Flow that updates your Presence whenever your smart door lock is unlocked.
Presence commands
Lastly, you can tell Homey when you’re leaving or coming home via a voice assistant like Siri, Alexa, or Google Home. If there are multiple registered users, you can create status update Flows for each person and have the automation triggered by their preferred voice assistant app or device.
Sleep status
When you go to bed, you want your home to adjust to your needs. That’s what the “Asleep” status is for. For example, activating the “Asleep” status can initiate a Flow that draws the curtains, turns off the lights, and slightly lowers the temperature.
Sleep Flows
You can set your “Asleep” status using Flows. For example, you can create a Flow that triggers when a button on your nightstand is pressed, or one that activates when a specific light is turned off after a designated time.
Sleep commands
The other way to update your “Asleep” status is to tell your voice assistant. You can create voice shortcuts with the phrases “Alexa, good night!” or “Hey Siri, good morning!” that trigger sleep update Flows.
