Controlling your smart home with a voice assistant is very useful. Homey integrates with Google Assistant or Google Home, allowing you to interact with the connected devices by voice and run your favorite Flows. This article explains the setup process.
Initial setup
Step 1
Open the Google Home app on your Android or iOS device. Alternatively, you can install it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Step 2
In the Google Home app, tap Add (+)→ Set up device → Works with Google.
Step 3
Search and tap Homey in the list of brands.
Step 4
Log in with your Athom account and follow the on-screen instructions.
From now on, you can use basic commands such as “Hey Google, turn everything off” or “Hey Google, dim the Kitchen Light to 50%.”
Enabling synchronization with Google (optional)
Additionally, Homey Pro can synchronize your devices’ live status, name, and zone with Google Home, which might improve the speed of certain voice commands.
This functionality must be manually enabled in the Homey app to better protect your privacy. To do that, follow these steps.
Syncing device data to Google
By synchronizing your device data to Google, you are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Step 1
In the Homey app, navigate to More (...) → Settings → Google Assistant.
Step 2
Enable synchronization by tapping the switch at the bottom of the screen.
Manual synchronization
Automatic device synchronization is only available on Homey Pro. When synchronization is not enabled, newly added devices might not appear in the Google Home app. You can synchronize manually by saying, “Hey, Google, sync devices.”
