Homey’s software improves continuously. Experimental updates give you access to new features and fixes before they reach everyone, but they may contain bugs or missing features.
Only enable experimental updates if you are a developer or comfortable with the risks.
Before you enable experimental updates
Experimental updates can be unstable. Once enabled, you cannot revert to a stable release without a factory reset. Always create a backup before enabling experimental updates.
Local backup
Connect your Homey Pro to a PC or Mac with USB to create a local backup. If an experimental update causes issues, you can restore this backup to return to a stable release.
Homey Pro Backups
If you use Homey Pro Backups, disable automatic backups while running experimental updates. This keeps a stable backup available in the cloud.
If you manually create a backup while running experimental updates, turn off automatic system updates first. This lets you restore that backup without Homey Pro automatically updating to the latest experimental release.
Set up experimental updates
- Go to Homey Developer Tools.
- Sign in with the account linked to your Homey Pro.
- Toggle the switch to enable or disable experimental updates.
