Homey's software improves continuously. As an experimental update tester, you will receive updates before they are released to everyone. However, these updates come at a cost — they can potentially contain bugs or missing features.
Setup instructions
Step 1
To enable experimental updates, start by visiting Homey Developer Tools.
Step 2
Next, sign in with your account linked to your Homey Pro (Early 2023).
Step 3
Toggle the switch to turn on or off the experimental updates on your Homey Pro (Early 2023).
Creating backups
Experimental updates might be unstable, and after enabling them, you can't revert to a stable firmware release without doing a factory reset. We advise always having a backup with stable firmware at hand, which can be used when there's an issue with the experimental update.
Homey Pro (Early 2023) allows you to create a local backup. Alternatively, you can subscribe to Homey Pro Backups to create a cloud backup.
Local backup
You can create a local backup when you connect your Homey Pro (Early 2023) to a PC or Mac with USB. Before enabling experimental updates on your Homey Pro, we suggest you create a local backup with a stable firmware release. When there's an issue with an experimental firmware release, you can restore this local backup to get things working again.
Homey Pro Backups
When you're running an experimental update on your Homey Pro (Early 2023) and you're subscribed to Homey Pro Backups, we advise disabling "automatic backups" so you can ensure that there's always a backup with a stable firmware release available in the cloud. You can manage your cloud backups under your account.
When manually creating a backup of your Homey Pro (Early 2023) with an experimental firmware release, please turn off "automatic updates" of Homey Pro's firmware before making a backup. When you restore this backup after experiencing issues with the latest experimental firmware release, your Homey Pro can return to a previous release without automatically upgrading the firmware.
