Use your Homey-connected devices in Apple Home. With the Matter Bridge app, your devices appear in the Apple Home app as native accessories. Control them with Siri, include them in scenes, and organize them into rooms.
What you need
- A Homey Pro (2023 — 2026), Homey Pro mini, or Homey Self-Hosted Server
- An iPhone or iPad running the latest version of iOS
- A home hub (HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K) for remote access and automations
- One or more devices added and working in Homey
1. Install the Matter Bridge app
Install the Matter Bridge app from the Homey App Store. Then open its settings:
- In the Homey Mobile App: More (…) → Settings → Matter Bridge
- In the Homey Web App: Settings (⚙︎) → Matter Bridge → Configure
You’ll see a QR code on screen. You’ll need this to connect Homey to Apple Home.
On your iPhone, take a screenshot of the QR code. Then open the screenshot, long-press the code, and tap Open in Home. This is the easiest way to start the pairing process.
If you’re using the Homey Web App, you can scan the QR code directly with your iPhone’s camera.
2. Add Homey as a bridge in Apple Home
- After scanning the QR code, Apple Home will show an accessory prompt.
- You may see a warning about an uncertified accessory. Tap Add Anyway to continue.
- Choose a location for the bridge, such as the living room.
- Give the bridge a name and tap Continue.
- Tap Done to finish. Homey is now connected to Apple Home as a Matter Bridge.
No home hub?
If you don’t have a home hub, you may see a “No Remote Access” message. Your devices still work when you’re on your home network, but you’ll need a HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K to control them remotely and use automations.
3. Select which devices to share
Go back to Settings → Matter Bridge in Homey. You can now select which devices you want to expose to Apple Home. Only selected devices will be visible.
What you can do
Once set up, your bridged devices work like any other Apple Home accessory. You can:
- Control them with Siri (“Hey Siri, turn off the hallway lights”)
- Add them to scenes and automations in the Home app
- Organize them into rooms alongside your other Apple Home devices
- Control them from your Apple Watch, HomePod, or Mac
Homey stays in control of each device. Apple Home accesses them through Homey.
Good to know
- Not every device feature is available in Apple Home. Matter exposes standardized capabilities, so some advanced features stay in Homey.
- Devices using Zigbee, Z-Wave, infrared, 433 MHz, or Wi-Fi can all be bridged, as long as they map to a supported Matter device type.
- Removing a device from Homey also removes it from Apple Home.
