The Homey Energy Dongle is designed for digital smart meters with a P1 port โ a standard energy-data interface used in many European countries. It works with Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini, Homey Self-Hosted Server, and Homey Cloud. Analog meters are not supported.
Regions with common P1 port support
P1 ports are typically found on smart meters in the following countries. While not every meter includes one, most modern models in these regions do.
Identifying the P1 port
The P1 port is typically labeled โP1โ and uses a smaller RJ12 connector, making it easy to identify.ย If your meter mentions โDSMRโ or โESMR,โ it is supported, though this label isnโt always visible.

Weโre dedicated to supporting all P1 smart meters with an RJ12 connector, so you can confidently order the Homey Energy Dongle knowing itโs compatible with your meter.
If your meter isnโt listed, you can still order with peace of mind. In the unlikely event it isnโt compatible, weโll work to add support within two weeks or else provide you with a full refund.
Contribute to our list of verified meters!
If your smart meter isnโt on the list and works great with the Homey Energy Dongle, pleaseย reach out to support. Weโd love to add it to our list of verified meters.
P1 port activation
Some smart meters in Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, and Switzerland have a P1 port that your energy provider needs to activate remotely. Without activation, your Homey Energy Dongle wonโt receive any data. You can usually request this through your providerโs portal or by email.
Encryption
Some energy providers in Austria, Luxembourg, and Sweden encrypt your smart meter data. Homey needs a decryption key to access this data during the Homey Energy Dongleโs setup. You can request this key from your energy provider. The process varies, but usually involves emailing them your address and smart meter serial number.
Decryption key
Ensure you have the decryption key to use the Homey Energy Dongle with your smart meter.
RJ45 HAN port
The Homey Energy Dongle works with smart meters that have a P1 port that uses an RJ12 connector. It wonโt be compatible if your meter features a HAN port with an RJ45 connector.
HAN-P1
Sweden uses RJ12 ports that are labelled HAN or HAN-P1. These meters are compatible with the Homey Energy Dongle.
Landis+Gyr E350
Some Landis+Gyr E350 models transmit a weaker signal, which prevents the Homey Energy Dongle from reading the data correctly. If thatโs the case, an Active P1 Splitter is required.
Kamstrup HAN-P1 module
Some Kamstrup meters without built-in P1 capabilities use a separate HAN-P1 module. This module comes in three variants: one is fully compatible with the Homey Energy Dongle, one is partially compatible, and one isnโt compatible.
These modules arenโt sold directly to consumers. Youโll have to contact your grid operator or energy provider if you need one. They can inform you which version you have and whether a compatible module is available.
Kamstrup HAN-P1 module
This module has two versions: one self-powered (fully compatible with the Homey Energy Dongle) and one that requires an Active P1 Splitter. The moduleโs documentation will tell you which splitter is needed.
Kamstrup HAN-NVE module
This variant doesnโt use the P1 standard, so itโs incompatible with the Homey Energy Dongle.
Recognizing HAN-P1 and HAN-NVE modules
The HAN-P1 and HAN-NVE modules are recognized by the size of their connectors. The HAN-NVE module uses an RJ45 connector, which is slightly larger than the RJ12 connector that the Homey Energy Dongle uses.
