A quick action runs a specific control for a device with a single tap, right from its tile.
Devices that support one show a dedicated quick-action button in the top-right corner of the tile. The icon on the button shows exactly which control it runs.
Tap the button to trigger it directly. Tap anywhere else on the device, and you’ll see every control it has, whether or not it has a quick action of its own.
Change a device’s quick action
- Press and hold the device, then tap Settings.
- Go to Quick Action.
- Turn Enable Quick Action on or off, or choose a different action from the list.
Toggle actions have an on/off state, like playing or muting. Press actions don’t — they fire once, like skipping a track or stopping playback.
What appears here depends on the device. A dimmable light might only offer a toggle, while a speaker offers several of both.
If a device has no quick action
Devices with a toggle or press action in their full controls get a quick action automatically, like lights, plugs, and media players.
Most sensors don’t, for example, since there’s nothing for the button to control. If your device does offer a controllable option, you can still assign it manually from the settings.
What press and hold does
Press and hold opens a context menu, with options like hiding or renaming the device, moving it to a different zone, or opening its settings. To open full controls, use a regular tap instead.
