- Check that the Homey app is up to date.
- Check that Bluetooth is on and that the Homey app has Bluetooth permission.
The Homey Energy Dongle doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi

The Homey Energy Dongle doesn’t connect to Homey
If you use Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini, or Homey Self-Hosted Server
The Homey Energy Dongle connects directly to your Homey over your local network. During setup, it needs internet access once to find out which Homey to connect to.
Check that your network allows a direct connection between the Homey Energy Dongle and your Homey. In most networks, this means:
- Both are on the same VLAN and subnet.
- Client isolation and access point isolation are turned off.
- Neither is connected to a guest network.
If you use Homey Cloud
The Homey Energy Dongle needs a permanent internet connection to reach the Homey Cloud servers. Check that your network settings, such as your firewall, allow this.
The LED shows a different color or pattern
Reset the Homey Energy Dongle:
- Insert a pin into the small hole next to the USB-C port.
- Press and hold for 30 seconds.
- Release when the LED blinks red. The reset is complete.
The Homey Energy Dongle disconnects often or behaves unexpectedly
Some smart meters don’t supply enough power to the Homey Energy Dongle. Connect the supplied USB-C cable to the Homey Energy Dongle and to a power source, and check if the problem continues.
The Homey Energy Dongle doesn’t receive any data
In Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland, some smart meters have a P1 port that your energy provider needs to activate remotely. Until it is activated, the Homey Energy Dongle receives no data. Ask your energy provider to activate the P1 port. Most providers let you request this through their customer portal or by email.
Error: “Unable to read your smart meter data”
- Unplug the Homey Energy Dongle from the P1 port of your smart meter.
- Plug it back in.
- If the error continues, create a diagnostics report and contact support. Include the brand and model of your smart meter.
Error: “Decryption key required”
In some regions, smart meter data is encrypted.
- Ask your energy provider for the decryption key of your smart meter.
- In the Homey app, open the device settings of the Homey Energy Dongle and go to Advanced Settings → Decryption Key.
- Enter the decryption key.
Error: “Unable to decrypt”
- Check that the decryption key you entered matches the key from your energy provider.
- If the key is correct and the error continues, create a diagnostics report for the Homey Energy Dongle and contact support.
