The macOS app lets you run Homey Self-Hosted Server directly on your Mac. Here’s how to get started.
System Requirements
- An Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later.
- At least 1 GB of free RAM.
- At least 4 GB of free storage.
Installing Homey Self-Hosted Server
1. Download and install the macOS app
Download the macOS app for Homey Self-Hosted Server, open the .dmg file, and drag Homey Self-Hosted Server to your Applications folder.
If you used the previous version of the macOS app, move your existing data from ~/homey-shs to ~/Library/Containers/app.homey.shs.Homey-Self-Hosted-Server/Data/Library/Application Support/Homey Self-Hosted Server/Data before starting Homey Self-Hosted Server.
2. Launch Homey Self-Hosted Server
Open Homey Self-Hosted Server from your Applications folder. The Homey icon appears in the macOS menu bar, where you can check the live status. Startup may take a few minutes.
3. Continue on your phone
Open the Homey Mobile App for iOS or Android to continue the setup.
When you’re new to Homey, you’ll see the Set Up Homey screen during onboarding. From there, choose Self-Hosted Server and follow the instructions.
Already using Homey?
Open the Home tab in the Homey app, tap your avatar in the top-right corner, then select My Homeys. On the next screen, tap Add New Homey and choose Self-Hosted Server.
Updating Homey Self-Hosted Server
Automatic updates are built in. When a new version is available, you’ll get a notification so you can update right away and keep running the latest release.
To check for updates manually, just click the Homey logo in the macOS menu bar and select Check for Updates…
Creating a Backup
Homey Self-Hosted Server stores its data in the following folder:
~/Library/Containers/app.homey.shs.Homey-Self-Hosted-Server/Data/Library/Application Support/Homey Self-Hosted Server/Data- To create a backup, copy all files and folders from this location to a safe place.
- To restore a backup, copy the backed-up files and folders back to the same location before starting Homey Self-Hosted Server.
