This article explains the various tiles and values displayed in the Homey Energy tab, helping you understand your energy consumption and production at a glance.
What do the values above and below the home represent?
The values shown in Homey Energy help you understand your home’s total energy flow in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
- EV Charger: Shows the net amount of energy used to charge your electric vehicle that day, meaning the total charging minus any discharging.
- Solar Panels: Reflect the total energy your system generates.
- Home: Represents your household’s total energy consumption, calculated by Homey using data from your smart meter and connected devices.
- Battery: Shows the net energy charged or discharged, indicating how much has been stored or supplied throughout the day.
- Grid: Displays the net amount of energy your home is drawing from or feeding back to the power grid.
Detailed breakdown
You can tap the values for EV Charger, Battery, and Grid to view the detailed breakdown between energy in and out.
What do the tiles located below the home mean?
Each tile provides specific insights into your energy setup. Here’s a quick overview.
- Electricity tile: Shows the energy consumption reported by your whole-home energy meter.
- Solar Panel tile: Indicates the energy production from your solar panels.
- Battery tile: Indicates your home battery’s state and charge level.
- EV Charger tile: Displays the amount of energy being delivered to your electric vehicle and indicates whether charging is active.
- Electric Vehicle tile: Shows your car’s battery level, whether it’s plugged in, and if it’s currently charging or discharging
What do the flowing energy animations represent?
They represent live energy consumption in watts flowing in specific directions. For example, solar generation consumed entirely by the home will flow from the solar panels to the home. Excess energy generation will also flow to the grid.
How is the Electricity Total price calculated?
The price above the Electricity Total graph reflects the cost of imported electricity. It doesn’t reflect exported prices, as regulations for selling energy back to the grid vary by region.
Seeing unexpectedly high totals?
If you’re using the Homey Energy Dongle alongside another device that tracks energy usage or export, you might be measuring the same data twice. To fix this, you can simply exclude one of the devices from Homey Energy.
What is Top Consumers, and which devices does it show?
The Top Consumers feature lets you quickly identify the most energy-hungry devices in your home and understand their impact on your bill.
The list includes devices that directly measure their kWh energy consumption. It does not include devices that estimate energy usage, such as those that show Power usage when off, Power usage when on, or Constant power usage.
