The solar production forecast in Homey Energy predicts how much electricity your solar panels are expected to generate today and tomorrow. It appears as a dashed line in your solar production chart alongside your actual output, so you can see how the day is shaping up.
Just added a solar panel, or updated to Homey Pro v13.4.0?
Homey needs one day to collect production data before the forecast appears. In every other case, the forecast is available right away.
Requirements
The solar production forecast is available on Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini, and Homey Self-Hosted Server. On Homey Cloud, it requires Homey Premium. You need at least one solar panel device added to Homey.
How the forecast is calculated
Homey combines your local weather forecast, your panel setup (system size and orientation), and your past production to estimate how much your panels will generate. The forecast updates automatically every day.
A forecast is an estimate, not a guarantee. Passing clouds, shade, snow, or dirt on panels, and last-minute weather changes all affect actual output. Homey becomes more accurate over the first few sunny days after setup, as it learns your system’s real output.
Viewing the forecast
In the Homey Energy tab, open your solar production chart. Switch between Today and Tomorrow, and toggle the forecast line on or off.
For Today, the dashed forecast line appears alongside your actual production. For Tomorrow, the forecast is the only data available, so the line is always shown.
Using the forecast in Flows
Use the forecast in Flows to automate based on expected solar production. For example, start the dishwasher, charge your e-bike, or turn on the air conditioning during the hours when your panels are expected to produce the most.
Flow cards and variables are available for expected production (in kWh), expected peak power (in W), and the hours with the highest expected output, for both today and tomorrow.
